Background
This is a pure malt blend of single malts from Nikka’s two distilleries, Yoichi in the northern island of Hokkaido and Miyagikyo in the north-east of the main island of Honshu. It’s named in honour of Masataka Taketsuru, the founding father of Japanese whisky and founder of Nikka Whisky.
The no-age statement Taketsuru Pure Malt was introduced in recent years, after the cessation of age-statement whisky releases from Nikka Whisky. Its delicate peatiness from Yoichi malts and fruity palate (yep, you guessed it, from Miyagikyo malts) – plus reasonable entry level pricing – make it a great whisky to be enjoyed in various ways.
Best drinking
Of course, neat and on the rocks are good, but try it as a highball or in a cocktail – we’ve recently added it as an option in our menu of Old Fashioneds. Come in tonight and give it a whirl!
