01 Aug Exciting news from Tokyo Bird – a second venue!
We’re a bit excited to publicly announce some big news for us here at Tokyo Bird. Some of you may have already heard first hand from the boys, but here it comes… The team at Tokyo Bird is ecstatic to announce that we’re opening a second venue – at the new Tramsheds Harold Park food destination in late September 2016!
Our new venue is Osaka Trading Co. – an 80-seat modern Japanese restaurant with kick-ass drinks and the friendly service you know and love from our Surry Hills laneway bar. You’ll see some familiar faces there and some new ones, which we’ll introduce to you here over the coming weeks.
While it’s currently still a construction site, Tramsheds Harold Park is a seriously amazing development with awesome original architectural features and a load of exciting community initiatives. Set within the historic, heritage-listed former Rozelle Tramsheds, we’ve got the likes of Belle’s Hot Chicken, Bodega and Gelato Messina among our neighbours. We jumped at the invitation to be a part of this exciting, new food destination last year and many months later, we’re delighted to share it with our you – our Tokyo Bird customers and supporters.
Bar manager Yoshi Onishi will remain at the helm of Tokyo Bird in Surry Hills but he’ll be at Osaka Trading Co. in spirit – or should we say spirits? (there’ll be a more than a few of Yosh’s favourite Japanese whiskies on the back bar!) Our other chatterbox, general manager Jason Ang is on-site with the build team at Osaka Trading Co. right now and will be between the two venues once we open in late September.
Jason says, “Osaka is considered the food capital of Japan. So while Tokyo Bird is our laneway small bar, Osaka Trading Co. is a modern Japanese restaurant with seafood taking centre stage – with great drinks alongside, of course. Osaka Trading Co. will incorporate some features of Tokyo Bird, but this is an entirely new concept with lunch options and a full-service dinner menu, seven days a week.
“Tramsheds is the perfect place to launch our new venue – it will be a destination unlike anywhere else in Sydney. It’s amazing to be standing side-by-side the incredible line-up of food providores in such a unique, iconic building,” adds Jason.
Stay up to date with our progress on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter – or drop in to Tokyo Bird for a status update! We can’t wait to welcome you to Osaka Trading Co.!
