01 Jul The House of Suntory is taking over Tokyo Bird!
If you haven’t already heard, we’re excited to announce that Tokyo Bird is getting taken over – well, just for the four Wednesday nights in August.
The House of Suntory Exclusive Takeover at Tokyo Bird kicks off on Wednesday, 5 August 2015 at our Surry Hills small bar. With Suntory, we’re showcasing the art of Japanese whisky and giving whisky lovers – as well as those new to and curious about Japanese whisky – a unique opportunity to taste the entire portfolio of Suntory Whisky in Australia, matched with our signature yakitori.
We have 3- and 6-course menus matched to Suntory whiskies served traditionally, as they would be in Japan. Think refreshing highballs (or ハイボール, pronounced hai-booru), mizuwari 水割り mixed with icy cold water and, of course, served on hand-carved ice balls.
We also have a dedicated House of Suntory cocktail list featuring nine new and innovative cocktails by bar manager Yoshi Onishi, all starring a Suntory Whisky and served with bar snacks.
“In line with true Japanese hospitality, we want everyone to enjoy the subtle complexity of Suntory Whisky and experience the range in the style its founder, Shinjiro Torii intended it to be consumed; alongside beautiful Japanese cuisine,” said Narelle McDonald, Beam Suntory Australia’s Group Marketing Manager.
“We’re very excited that The House of Suntory will be popping up at Tokyo Bird throughout August,” said Jason Ang, Tokyo Bird’s general manager. “For those new to Suntory’s whiskies and Japanese whisky generally, it will be a great introduction to a range of premium Japanese whiskies. For those who are familiar with these whiskies, it will be a great chance to try the traditional highball and mizuwari servings with a specially-designed food pairings – and, of course, our signature hand-carved ice balls.”
Bookings are essential for The House of Suntory 3- and 6-course menus, with two sitting times: 6.00pm (or earlier – tables must be vacated by 8.15pm) or 8.30pm.
